Background:
When comic book creator Mitchell Tonelson approached me, he had a dream: to create a graphic novel that blended the timeless teachings of Taekwondo with an engaging story featuring talking animals. His vision was inspired by his martial arts mentor, Master Nam Jin Kim, and aimed to teach children about focus, self-control, and emotional regulation. However, Mitchell needed more than just help—he needed someone who could bring his dream to life from concept to completion.
That’s where I came in. I collaborated with Mitchell to develop Taekwondo Tales – Benny’s Quest for Courage, a groundbreaking graphic novel designed to educate, entertain, and inspire young readers aged 9-12. My role encompassed everything from scriptwriting to managing the artistic process and ensuring the final product met the highest standards. The book was completed and prepared for release in Fall 2024, and is now available for purchase on Amazon.
Challenge:
Mitchell needed more than just a script. He required:

Educational Storytelling:
I transformed Mitchell’s initial concepts into a polished script that weaves the “Five Secrets of Taekwondo” into a thrilling adventure. The story follows Benny, a young wolf on a journey to reclaim his courage and confidence. Along the way, Benny learns:
