KEY EVENTS – Google’s new way of proving visitors “got what they wanted”.

Google now weighs heavily on “Key Events” tracking with Google Analytics/Tag Manager.

They want to see the user’s duration on the page, plus see if the person actually clicked on your “Key Event” whether it’s buy, subscribe, etc…

That’s one way they’re proving if the visitor “got what they wanted” during the visit.

This means SEO success in 2025 isn’t just about keyword stuffing or gaming the system with black hat SEO tactics (things that are against Google’s policy).

It’s about storytelling, creating value, and understanding how to connect with your audience authentically.

Here’s The Story

When I was a kid, I worked at my dad’s electronics store.

My job was to list extra products on Amazon. We had all kinds of old stuff… cassette tapes and players that were almost 20 years old. 

I was 16. At the time, I hated it.

Sales were slow at first. 

I had to scan, and scan, and scan, all day long.

The relentless boredom was taking its toll. 

But one day, we watched this movie called “Limitless” about a person who took a magic pill that made them infinitely intelligent with unlimited energy.

The next morning, I decided something needed to change.

Teetering on the brink of boredom-induced insanity, a deep survival instinct kicked in.

I decided to imagine I was someone else…

I WAS LIMITLESS!

I used the power of my imagination to embody the mindset of a person with unlimited energy and intelligence.

And that same day, I discovered something that sped up my work 10-fold!

…a cell phone app that automatically uploaded scanned products into Amazon… 

I went on a sprint, scanning like a superhero!

Dad was very impressed.

That was my first lesson in the power of manifestation. 

But I had no idea it would teach me one of the most valuable lessons of my life:

How to sell things online. To get down and do the hard, tedious work to make it happen… 

The result? Over $70,000 in sales in just one year.

Here’s the thing: we didn’t just get lucky.

We didn’t even intentionally use SEO.

We priced everything as low as possible and listed thousands of products.

The sheer variety of products we sold created a wide enough net for people to find us in Amazon search. (Psst… this still works in 2025).

That meant we got more reviews and an increase in rankings on Amazon faster.

It wasn’t until later, when I worked for a trading company, that I realized how foundational those lessons were to SEO.

This brings us to the key question: is SEO still relevant in 2025 for online sales and visibility? Absolutely!

This stuff doesn’t come easy to most people.

I keep mentioning “is SEO Relevant in 2025” because the number of times I mention it–keyword density–is a contributing factor to ranking higher in Google. 


A Success Story in SEO

At the trading company, I had a very different challenge compared to my dad’s store.

Instead of thousands of products, guess how many unique products they had? 

Six. That’s right. The number 6.

But here’s the catch: they had thousands of each product.

That meant we had to generate thousands of sales on just 6 listings.

And their advertising budget was pretty much zero.

The products weren’t special, either.

They were products that other retailers couldn’t get rid of.

Kids’ backpacks, bluetooth speakers, monitor stands, canned food… 

Oh, and Amazon made it even harder.

Five or ten other sellers shared the same products, all competing for the “buy box.”

And this was the top seller in the Buy Box: 

Since our account was new and had no reviews, we were one of those guys kicked to the floor.

Stuck at the bottom, barely visible.

Then I realized another problem: the product listings were awful.

Take one of the monitor stands, for example, titled:

“FUNKY SPACEBAR MX157X12 – POP MONITOR STAND – BLACK”

No one searches for “Funky” “Spacebar” or “POP” when they need a monitor stand.
I don’t even know what “POP” is supposed to mean!

No wonder the manufacturer shut down.  

And the product image wasn’t any better.

I mean look at that sad, sad photo. 

How does it make you feel?

I feel… nothing. 

If it didn’t say “Monitor Stand” somewhere in that title, I wouldn’t even know what it is. 

Here’s how I fixed it:

  1. I created a new product listing.
    Some other seller “owned” the listing, meaning we couldn’t edit it, so I made a new one.

  2. I took better photos.
    I took better photos that showed the product being used in real-life situations. For example, I set up a Bluetooth speaker by the pool for a photoshoot. 

  3. I rewrote the title.
    I replaced the confusing title with something clear and searchable: “Stylish Black Monitor Stand – Unique Monitor Stand with USB Ports.” This was before I even knew about “SEO Keyword Research.”

What happened next?

In just ONE DAY, our sales skyrocketed.

We went from zero to two sales a day. Then three. Then five.

Soon, we were selling ten or more every day.

Since we had thousands of units to sell, this made a huge difference.

Even a small improvement in visibility and sales per day quickly added up.

We brought in almost $120,000 without running any ads!

For most of us, $120K in sales sounds great.

But if you’re looking at the profit margins alone, you might be thinking, “$120K in sales? That’s peanuts.” 

But I had to pick, pack, and ship most of these products… all by myself. 

And manage returns. And the customer service.

The company had almost no marketing budget, nor did we have an existing retail brand, store, or audience of any kind.

I didn’t choose these products.

And if you consider the circumstances, it’s a pretty heroic example of how SEO saved the day.

Let’s look at a story about YouTube:

I’ve seen plenty of YouTube channels with hundreds of videos uploaded but barely 100 subscribers.

They’ve been churning out content for years and just “don’t understand” why no one is seeing them.

They relied on vague or catchy headlines like, “Watch This!” or “My Thoughts Today.”

These titles didn’t tell YouTube’s algorithm—or viewers—what the videos were about.

The result? Their content stayed hidden, even though it was great.
